The Research Behind Consumus

Plastic Surgery

If someone does not like a part of their body they can get it fixed for a price. Plastic or cosmetic surgery is the quickest and easiest solution for "fixing" a part of the body. Current society is into transforming themselves into Ken and Barbie. They want to be perfect and are willing to sacrifice damage to their bodies to obtain it.

Plastic Surgery Quote Important factors that play in the appeal of plastic surgery for women are media images, investment in appearance and physical comparison to others. People are bombarded with images of beauty like never before, but what people, especially women, forget are those images are rendered by professional makeup artists, stylists, photographers and editors with airbrushes. (Hitti, 2005) Those images are not reality.

Below are a few facts and figures related to plastic surgery.

    Breast Implant Surgery
  • In 2004, more than 300,000 teens age 18 or younger had some sort of cosmetic work done in the United States. *
  • There were nearly 11.9 million surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed in 2004. *
  • Women had nearly 10.7 million cosmetic procedures, 90 percent of the total. The number of cosmetic procedures for women increased 49 percent from 2003. *
  • The top five surgical procedures for women were: liposuction, breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, tummy tuck and facelift. *

* (Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Research, 2004)

Breast augmentation is the second most popular procedure after liposuction. Some risks with breast augmentation are loss of sensation because of implant surgery. Another common complication is hematomas (the pooling of blood around the implant) or a seroma (the pooling of pus or lymph around the implant). (Plastic Surgery Advisor, 2006)
